Watermelon Wonderland: Russian Scientists Grow Fruit in Earth's Coldest Region

Russian scientists have successfully grown watermelons at Vostok Station, the coldest place on Earth located in Antarctica. The researchers created a greenhouse with increased air temperature and humidity to create favorable conditions for the watermelons. They manually pollinated the plants and after 103 days, harvested eight ripe and sweet fruits. This experiment not only proved that watermelons can be grown in extreme cold environments, but it also provided a refreshing treat for the scientists living in Antarctica. The scientists plan to expand their farming to include other fruits like blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries.
