Astrobotic's Peregrine lunar lander is set to launch carrying a variety of payloads to the Moon, including scientific instruments, tiny robots, and even cremated remains and DNA of over 200 people for a space memorial service. Two companies, Celestis and Elysium Space, are conducting these memorial missions, with the lunar burial starting at $11,950. While some see it as a touching tribute, others, like Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, view leaving human remains on the Moon as a desecration of a sacred space. As commercial access to deep space increases, it may become more challenging to regulate what is sent to the Moon.
