Scammers using account takeover trick to impersonate Meta and steal Facebook profiles

Verified Facebook pages, including those impersonating Meta, were hacked and used to purchase ads that distributed malware. The compromised accounts were able to purchase ads through Facebook's automated system, despite impersonating major tech companies. Meta has launched a verification program to improve customer support for businesses, but it comes at a cost of $14.99 a month. Hackers are increasingly using AI-themed lures to compromise businesses with access to Facebook ad accounts, stealing information and hijacking Facebook Business accounts.
