The Uncertain Future of E3: A Look Back at Its Best Moments and Current Challenges.
TL;DR
The cancellation of E3 2023 has led to speculation that the event may not return. The pandemic, economic headwinds, and publishers' experimentation with balancing in-person events with digital marketing streams have contributed to the collapse in support for the event. The E3 brand is also tarnished due to poorly conceived efforts to make the show a public event and a disastrous data leak. The gaming industry needs to conduct a brutally honest accounting of the event's actual value if it is ever to come back.
