"ESA Harnesses the Magnetic Power of the Future"

The European Space Agency's General Support Technology Programme (GSTP) has been working with industry and academia for the past 30 years to develop promising technologies for spaceflight and the open market. As part of this program, electromagnetic coils have been 3D printed in pure copper using laser powder bed fusion, allowing for the production of required magnetic field shapes. These coils are used in various applications such as electric motors, magnetic bearings, and satellite attitude control. GSTP has become a cornerstone of ESA's technology efforts, with every ESA Member State choosing to subscribe to the program.
