Apple's AI AirPods near production with camera sensors

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports testers are actively using prototypes of camera-equipped AirPods at the design validation stage. The cameras are meant to feed low-resolution visual data to Siri for tasks like cooking suggestions or turn-by-turn directions, not to snap photos or video. The devices will look like the AirPods Pro 3 but with longer stems and a small LED to indicate when visual data is being uploaded to the cloud. Apple aimed for an early-2026 launch, but Siri delays pushed timing toward September, as part of a broader AI-gadget push that also includes smart glasses and an AI pendant.
