US Automakers Experience Strong Sales Growth Despite Challenges

Ford Motor reported a 7.7% increase in U.S. new vehicle sales for the third quarter, driven by higher sales of traditional pickup trucks. Truck sales rose by 15.3%, while car sales declined by 5.1% and SUV sales remained flat. Ford's electric vehicle sales increased by 14.8%, with the Mustang Mach-E crossover leading the way. However, sales of the F-150 lightning electric pickup dropped by 46% due to slower demand and plant downtime. Ford's EV sales accounted for only 3% of its total vehicle sales in the first nine months of the year. The ongoing strike by the United Auto Workers union is not expected to significantly impact sales in the quarter, but future production of vehicles like the Ford Bronco and Ranger may be affected.
