"UN Warns of Middle East Crisis as Israel-Hamas Conflict Escalates in Gaza"

The United Nations (UN) has warned that the Middle East is on the "verge of the abyss" as the Israel-Hamas conflict deepens the crisis in Gaza. The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, appealed to Hamas to release hostages without conditions and called on Israel to grant rapid and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to the civilians in Gaza. The UNRWA Commissioner-General also expressed concern about the dire situation in Gaza, stating that the region is being strangled and on the verge of collapse. The conflict is now threatening to spill over into the wider region, with intense exchanges of fire observed along the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel. The World Health Organization (WHO) has increased its capacity to provide immediate access to medical care for civilians in south Lebanon.
