Medicare Part B Premiums Surge Beyond Social Security COLA in 2025

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that the standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B will increase by $10.30 to $185.00 in 2025, outpacing both inflation and the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). This rise in premiums, driven by projected costs and usage increases, will consume a larger portion of Social Security checks, particularly affecting high-income beneficiaries who also pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA). Medicare Part B premiums have consistently risen faster than COLA over the years, contributing to financial challenges for seniors.
