A study published in JAMA Network Open reveals that social drinkers taking obesity medications like Wegovy and Mounjaro report a reduced desire for alcohol. About half of the Weight Watchers members surveyed, who were on these medications, cut back on drinking. The drugs, which influence the brain's reward system, seem to diminish cravings for alcohol, aligning with anecdotal reports from clinical trials. Researchers suggest these medications might also be effective for treating alcohol addiction, though more research is needed.
