Hamas and Israel Negotiate Deal to Free Dozens of Hostages

Hamas has reportedly agreed to release at least 50 women and children held captive in Gaza in exchange for a multi-day pause in fighting and increased aid. However, Israel has yet to accept the deal, which would also involve the release of some Palestinians jailed in Israel. The total number of hostages represents only 20% of those taken captive during the October 7 attack by Hamas militants on Israel, with ten Americans still believed to be in their custody. While a ceasefire has been previously rejected, a three-to-five-day pause in the fighting appears to be a possibility.
