"U.S. Increases Military Presence Near Israel in Display of Support"
The Pentagon is sending ships and aircraft closer to Israel in a show of force following Hamas attacks on southern Israel. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin directed the USS Gerald R. Ford, USS Normandy, and several destroyers to move to the Eastern Mediterranean, while also augmenting U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft squadrons in the region. The move aims to strengthen regional deterrence efforts and bolster the Department of Defense's posture. The DOD will also rapidly provide additional equipment and resources to the Israel Defense Forces, including munitions. President Joe Biden expressed his support for Israel and pledged additional assistance during a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
