Alabama Republicans Defy Supreme Court, Reject Second Majority Black House District

Alabama Republicans, in response to a Supreme Court ruling, rejected calls to create a second majority-Black congressional district and instead proposed a new map that would increase the percentage of Black voters in the 2nd congressional district from about 30% to nearly 42.5%. The court had previously ruled that Alabama's existing congressional map likely violated the Voting Rights Act by not providing enough representation for Black voters.
