China Expands Lunar Mission Collaboration Opportunities

China has invited international cooperation for its upcoming lunar missions, including the Chang'e-8 mission, as it aims to establish a permanent habitat on the moon's south pole by the 2030s. The China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced that international partners can participate in mission-level projects, launch their own spacecraft, and explore the moon's surface jointly with China. Interested parties must submit a letter of intent by December 31, 2021, and final selection of proposals will be made in September 2024. China's lunar mission timeline aligns with NASA's Artemis program, which plans to return U.S. astronauts to the moon's south pole by December 2025. However, NASA is prohibited from collaborating with China due to U.S. law.
