The Odysseus lunar lander, nicknamed "Odie," is set to launch on a historic US moon mission, aiming to make the first touchdown of a US-made spacecraft on the moon in five decades. Scheduled to launch atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, Odie will embark on a scouting mission to assess the lunar environment, carrying six NASA science and technology payloads as well as technology and commemorative payloads from the private sector. The mission aims to gather crucial data about the moon's south pole, a region thought to be rich in water ice, ahead of NASA's plan to return a crewed mission to the moon through the Artemis program in late 2026.
