The European Space Agency's (ESA) Ariane 6 rocket successfully completed a full-scale rehearsal for its first flight, including a seven-minute full firing of the core stage's engine. The engine-fire trial simulated a normal flight into space, with the main engine shutting down and the core stage separating from the upper stage. The test marked a significant milestone in the development of Ariane 6, which aims to secure Europe's autonomous access to space. The rocket's Vulcain 2.1 engine burned through almost 150 tonnes of propellant, demonstrating its performance and cost-effectiveness. A final hot-fire test of the upper stage is planned for December 2023.
