Severe storms and flash floods shut down Fort Lauderdale airport and strand drivers.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport closed due to heavy rain and flash floods that blocked airport entrances and stranded drivers. The airport will remain closed until at least 1 a.m. as the roadway entrances and exit to the airport were “impassible.” The Kinney Tunnel was also closed due to the weather, and drivers were asked to stay off the roads. Over 14 inches of rain had fallen in the area, with an additional five inches possible.
