Africa's Climate Summit Hindered by Inadequate Weather Forecasting

As the Africa Climate Summit opens in Kenya, it highlights the continent's vulnerability to climate change and the urgent need for better weather forecasting and data collection. Africa, with its vast size and population, has just 37 radar facilities for tracking weather, compared to Europe's 345 and North America's 291. The lack of accurate weather forecasts hampers development choices and puts lives and livelihoods at risk. The continent's limited weather data also complicates efforts to link natural disasters to climate change. Efforts are underway to improve weather data collection and sharing, but more investment is needed to address this critical issue.
