Climate Change: The Driving Force Behind July's Unprecedented Heat Waves

A new study by World Weather Attribution reveals that the recent heatwaves experienced in July across the Northern Hemisphere, including North America, Europe, and China, would have been "virtually impossible" without climate change. The study highlights that Europe experienced temperatures 2.5 degrees Celsius hotter than they would have been without climate change. The severe heat spell in China was also about 50 times more likely due to global warming. The consequences of these heatwaves have been devastating, with over 100 deaths in Mexico and the US-Mexico border. The researchers emphasize the urgent need to switch to clean energy and adapt to a warmer world by implementing action plans for heat disasters, designing heat-resilient cities, and ensuring reliable power grids.
