"EU Urges Global Dialogue on Climate Geoengineering Risks"

The European Commission has called for international discussions on the risks and governance of geoengineering, stating that such interventions to alter the climate pose unacceptable risks. Geoengineering techniques, including CO2 removal and solar radiation modification (SRM), have gained attention as countries struggle to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Commission highlighted that SRM, in its current state, represents an unacceptable level of risk for humans and the environment. The EU is funding two projects to assess geoengineering techniques but emphasized that they cannot solve climate change's root cause - greenhouse gas emissions. The United Nations is suggested as a potential venue for talks to ensure all countries have a say.
