Record-breaking Heat: 2023 Poised to Be Hottest Year in History

European Union scientists have declared that this year is on track to be the warmest in 125,000 years, with last month being the hottest October on record by a significant margin. The heat is attributed to ongoing greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels, combined with the emergence of the El Niño climate pattern. The current hottest year on record is 2016, but 2023 is expected to surpass it. Climate change is causing increasingly destructive extremes, including floods, heatwaves, and wildfires.
