Children caught in conflict face dire year as attacks on hospitals and schools double, India removed from UNSG report on impact of armed conflict

The Secretary-General's annual report on children and armed conflict reveals a "dire year" for children caught in conflict, with a doubling of attacks on hospitals and schools. The report documents 27,180 grave violations, including recruitment, killing, maiming, rape, and abduction. The worst offenders were the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Israel, the State of Palestine, Somalia, Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Yemen. Russia's forces and affiliated armed groups in Ukraine were added to the offenders' list for attacks on hospitals and schools during the invasion. Israel and Palestine were not added, as there was a decrease in Israeli airstrikes, but concerns remain over violence in the West Bank.
