"Intense Battle for Avdiivka Leaves Russian Military with 4,000 Casualties"

Russian forces fighting for control of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine have suffered estimated losses of at least 4,000 troops, making it one of their worst casualty rates this year. The United Kingdom's Defense Ministry stated that Russian forces deployed eight brigades in their campaign for Avdiivka, but have likely suffered some of their highest casualty rates in 2023. Despite Russian attempts to encircle Avdiivka, Ukrainian forces have repelled them and inflicted major losses. Ukraine's counteroffensive also includes advances towards Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Bakhmut. The concentrated assault on Avdiivka has come after Ukraine launched its counteroffensive five months ago, and Russia's losses in equipment are expected to undermine their offensive capabilities in the long term.
