"Israel and Gaza: Ceasefire Ends 5 Days of Violence and Rocket Threats"

Israel's Operation Shield and Arrow against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group in Gaza achieved its prime goals in the first two seconds of the operation, killing three Islamic Jihad commanders. Despite the devastating blows, Islamic Jihad managed to keep up to half of Israel close to or inside sealed rooms and bomb shelters for five days. The operation has helped bolster Israeli deterrence, but leaving Hamas without an answer to Israel's military capabilities constitutes a far tougher challenge than that posed by Islamic Jihad. A ceasefire finally went into effect on Saturday night.
