"Marine's Sneak Attack and Ukraine's Costly Mission Against Russia in Bakhmut"

Former US Marine Troy Offenbecker joined a Ukrainian unit in a sneak attack on Russian troops near Bakhmut, Ukraine, killing several Russians at close range. The goal was to diminish the numbers of the suspected Veterans PMC unit and hurt the Russians’ morale. The team pushed in 400 meters and stood one foot away from the Russians’ trenches, close enough to see their legs. They were outnumbered by about 7-to-1 and had to exfiltrate and peel back after a 15-minute battle. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly stated Bakhmut is a key focus of Kyiv’s counteroffensive against Russian forces.
