Ukraine Accuses Russia of Using Phosphorus Bombs in Bakhmut Fire

Ukraine has accused Russian forces of using phosphorus weapons to attack the besieged city of Bakhmut. Phosphorus bombs contain a mixture of white phosphorus and can be used as incendiary weapons or to make smoke screens. While they are not banned as a chemical weapon under international conventions, they cannot be used in civilian areas. The Ukrainian defense ministry shared footage on social media showing the aftermath of the weapons' use. Kyiv warned that Moscow's forces were trying to seize Bakhmut in time for Victory Day on May 9, when Russia celebrates the Soviet Union's role in defeating Nazi Germany.
