Israeli forces killed around 40 Hamas terrorists in an expanded ground operation in Khan Younis, Gaza, and located a weapons cache and underground tunnel network used by Hamas. The operation also included a targeted raid on a military compound and strikes by the Israeli Navy. The surge of violence began when Hamas invaded Israeli border communities on Oct. 7, 2023. Both sides have suffered casualties, with Israel reporting 182 soldiers killed and the Hamas government-run health ministry in Gaza reporting over 23,000 Palestinians killed.
