UN Suspends Services at Palestinian Refugee Camp in Lebanon Due to Security Concerns

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has suspended services at the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, Ein el-Hilweh, due to the presence of armed fighters around its schools and facilities. Deadly clashes erupted last month after an assassination attempt, causing hundreds to flee. UNRWA called on armed actors to vacate its facilities and ensure the delivery of much-needed assistance to the 63,000 Palestinian refugees residing in the camp. The agency stated that schools are unlikely to be available for the start of the new school year, affecting 3,200 children.
