Russian Spies Exposed: UK Reveals Cyber Campaign Targeting Politicians and Journalists

The UK has accused Russia of conducting a long-term "campaign of malicious cyber activity" aimed at undermining British democracy. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) reported that Russian spies, operating under the hacking group Star Blizzard, targeted politicians, civil servants, journalists, universities, and non-government organizations since 2015. The NCSC also revealed that the group leaked UK-US trade documents before the 2019 general election and hacked think tanks defending democracy against disinformation. In response, the UK and its international allies issued a cybersecurity advisory to share technical details on attacks and defense strategies. The report comes ahead of the UK's next general election and follows the inconclusive evidence of Kremlin meddling in the Brexit vote.
