Israel Expands F-35 Fleet with New Purchase and Squadron Addition

Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has approved the purchase of a third squadron of 25 F-35 aircraft from Lockheed Martin, bringing Israel's total complement to 75 aircraft. The F-35 is considered crucial for Israel's defense against Iranian proxies in Syria and potential strikes on Iran's nuclear program. The purchase, valued at approximately $3 billion, will be financed by US aid funds. The deal includes involvement of Israeli defense industries in the production of aircraft components. Israel has also made investments in other aircraft reinforcements, including F-15 EX Boeing fighters and KC-46A midair refueling aircraft.
