Putin and Erdogan strengthen ties with inauguration of Turkish nuclear plant.

Turkish President Erdogan thanked Russian President Putin for his help in building Turkey's first nuclear power reactor, the Akkuyu plant, which was inaugurated virtually by both leaders. The $20bn project, built by Russia's Rosatom, will allow Turkey to reduce its dependence on imported hydrocarbons for energy. The two leaders also discussed the Black Sea grain initiative and the situation in Ukraine. The construction of the plant was complicated by sanctions imposed on Russia by the West for its invasion of Ukraine.
