Serbia's Gas Supply to Hungary Hinges on Ukraine's Transit Deal

Serbia has offered to increase supplies of Russian natural gas to Hungary if Ukraine terminates its gas transit agreement with Russia. Hungary heavily relies on Russian gas, receiving about 80% of its supply from Russia via the TurkStream pipeline through Serbia. Hungary has opposed EU sanctions on Russian energy and seeks to secure its energy security. Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also expressed interest in Hungary becoming a future destination and transit point for gas exports from Turkmenistan.
