Fatal Heatwave Sweeps Northern India, Elderly Urged to Stay Indoors.

At least 34 people aged over 60 have died in the past two days due to a heatwave in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, with temperatures reaching 42.2 degrees Celsius. The fatalities occurred in Ballia district, with most of the deaths caused by heart attacks, brain strokes and diarrhoea. The scorching summer has caused power outages across the state, leaving people with no running water, fans or air conditioners. A study by World Weather Attribution found that a searing heatwave in April that struck parts of South Asia was made at least 30 times more likely by climate change.
