"Glacier Babies: Himalayan Farmers Mate Glaciers to Combat Climate Change"

Residents in Pakistan's highlands are reviving the ancient ritual of glacier mating in an effort to replace the rapidly melting glaciers that have traditionally provided water for farming. As climate change accelerates the melting of glaciers, the United Nations is supporting unconventional strategies to address water scarcity, including glacier mating, building frozen water fountains, harvesting avalanches, and water theft. The region, known as the "Third Pole" due to its large volume of ice, is expected to lose 30%-50% of its ice mass by the end of the century, impacting 10 major Asian river systems and 1.9 billion people.
