Spain's Drought Reaches National Emergency Level.

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has declared drought as "one of the central political and territorial debates of our country over the coming years." Catalonia, one of the worst affected regions, could enter a drought "emergency" this September, according to Catalan authorities. Nearly three years of drought have shrunk the water levels in the reservoirs that supply northern Catalonia to 27% capacity. The agricultural sector has also suffered from the prolonged drought, with farmers' groups urging the ministry in Spain to take emergency measures.
