Surviving the Frontline: Ukrainian Town's Desperate Wait for Peace

Residents of the frontline town of Siversk in eastern Ukraine, which has been battered by over 500 days of fighting, refuse to leave their war-torn homes. Despite the destruction and lack of basic amenities, roughly 1,000 people, in a town that once had a population 10 times that, cling on to their homes and a semblance of their former lives. The elderly residents endure the hardships, seeking free bread, gossip, and company, while expressing their weariness and longing for normality. Some remain optimistic, while others fear the relentless push of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The residents are protective of their town and their emotional ties to it, refusing to leave because of their buried loved ones.
