Formerly detained North Koreans have detailed the harrowing conditions they faced in North Korean detention centers, including violent rape, starvation, and forced labor. Many prisoners are unaware that they are being tortured, according to an NGO report. The report highlights the stories of three prisoners, including a pregnant woman who was forced to have an abortion while in pre-trial detention. The UN HRC released a report in February that backs up many of the findings in the report.
