Syrian Building Collapse Fears Persist Months After Earthquakes.

Three months after the earthquakes that hit northwestern Syria and southeastern Turkey, hundreds of families are still living in unsafe and uninhabitable structures. The earthquakes destroyed almost 2,000 buildings and damaged over 4,000, resulting in an estimated economic loss of $1.95bn. The healthcare sector in northwest Syria has also been severely affected, with many facilities damaged and taken out of service. The UN has conducted a visit to assess the overall situation and evaluate the immediate and necessary relief needs that need to be addressed. However, the 2023 Syria humanitarian response plan is badly funded and has only received 7 percent of the funding it needs.
