Examining the Misuse of "Genocide" and "War Crimes" in the Israel-Hamas Conflict

Accusations of genocide have been made by various governments, citizens, and commentators in relation to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The term "genocide" is defined by the UN as acts intended to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. While Hamas, with its explicit commitment to obliterating Israel, meets the criteria, Israel does not. However, Israel's actions, including civilian casualties, the blockade of Gaza, and displacement of people, have led to accusations of serious bodily or mental harm and partial destruction of territory. Even if not classified as genocide, these actions can still be considered serious and heinous crimes against humanity and war crimes.
