India Cracks Down on Trafficking Ring Sending Citizens to Fight for Russia

India has uncovered a human trafficking network that deceived young men into going to Russia for jobs, only to be coerced into fighting in the Ukraine war. The Central Bureau of Investigation revealed that about 35 people were sent to Russia in this scheme, with at least two dying in combat. The traffickers targeted individuals through social media and local agents, training them for combat roles against their will. Indian authorities have seized cash and detained suspects, while the Indian foreign ministry has raised the issue with Moscow. Despite the conflict, India has maintained a close relationship with Russia and increased its purchase of Russian oil.
