Poland Detains Russians for Wagner Group Recruitment and Propaganda

The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) has accused the Kremlin-funded Wagner Group of attempting to recruit mercenaries in Latvia, joining Poland in raising concerns about the paramilitary outfit. The VDD identified "direct and indirect invitations" on social media for residents to join the group. Stickers bearing the Wagner Group logo were also reportedly distributed in Poland. Latvia prohibits its citizens and non-citizen residents from serving in military organizations that threaten national security, punishable by up to four years in prison. The Wagner Group, involved in an uprising against the Kremlin in June, relocated to Belarus, prompting increased border security measures by NATO members Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia.
