20,000 soldiers from nine NATO countries, including 15,000 from Poland, crossed Poland's Vistula river in a major readiness exercise called Dragon 24, testing NATO's capabilities and readiness against Russia. The operation is part of the larger NATO exercise Steadfast Defender, mobilizing around 90,000 soldiers in total, and is the alliance's largest since the Cold War. With increasing warnings of potential Russian aggression, Poland, a staunch supporter of Ukraine, has invested heavily in modern weapons systems and spends around 4% of its GDP on defense.
