China's role as a mediator in the Middle East has grown in recent years, with the country hosting and mediating talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and offering to mediate peace talks between Israel and Palestine. China's economic influence in the region, as well as its policy of non-interference in domestic issues, has given it clout and made it a less controversial mediator than the US. However, China's reluctance to take on the role of security provider could limit its negotiating toolkit in the long run.
