Hong Kong Implements Control Measures on Japanese Seafood Due to Fukushima Concerns

Hong Kong's Chief Executive, John Lee, strongly opposes Japan's plan to release treated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea, citing concerns over food safety and the marine environment. As a result, Hong Kong will "immediately activate" import controls on Japanese seafood, including live, frozen, refrigerated, dried aquatic products, sea salt, and seaweed. This move will impact Japan's second-largest market for agricultural and fisheries exports, with Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong anticipating losses of up to 40%.
