Iran Seizes Second Oil Tanker Amid US-Iran Tensions

Iranian forces have seized a second oil tanker, the Panama-flagged Niovi, in less than a week while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy forced the oil tanker to reverse its course and sail into Iranian territorial waters. In the past two years, Iranian forces have attacked or harassed 15 internationally-flagged merchant vessels. The seizure of the oil tanker is seen as a threat to maritime security and the global economy.
