Lavrov: North Korea's situation transformed by U.N. sanctions

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the geopolitical climate has changed since the United Nations imposed sanctions on North Korea, accusing the West of breaking promises on humanitarian support for Pyongyang. Lavrov claimed that the reason Russia and China blocked a further U.S.-drafted sanctions resolution last year was due to the West's false promise of humanitarian aid. He also indirectly referenced the West's violation of contractual agreements by providing Soviet-era weaponry to Ukraine. Lavrov's remarks come at a time when Russia's adherence to sanctions on North Korea is being closely scrutinized.
