Macron's China Visit: Seeking Breakthroughs on Ukraine and China's Support of Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are set to visit China for a three-day state visit to discuss the war in Ukraine with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Macron is expected to ask China to not supply Russia with weapons, while von der Leyen publicly criticised Beijing’s “no limits” ties with Moscow. The visit could be a first step towards improving EU-China relations, which have deteriorated sharply in recent years due to disputes over China’s claims in the South China Sea and crackdowns in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong.
