NATO Chief Affirms Support for Ukraine Against Putin's Aggression

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized the importance of continuing to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia, stating that there is no alternative to backing Kyiv. Despite doubts over US support due to opposition from far-right Republicans, Stoltenberg stressed the responsibility of political leaders and citizens to stand up for Ukraine. He dismissed claims that Russia had achieved its objectives in Ukraine, calling the war a strategic mistake and defeat for Putin. Stoltenberg refrained from speculating on Ukraine's potential NATO membership and highlighted the reinforcement of NATO's eastern flank, increased defense spending, and acceptance of new members as achievements during his tenure. He also urged Turkey to expedite the ratification process for Sweden's NATO membership. Stoltenberg did not comment on his potential successor or the possibility of dealing with former US President Donald Trump in the future, but expressed confidence in NATO's ability to unite around its core task of protecting member states.
