Tensions rise as Japan and China clash over Fukushima water disposal

Japan has expressed its dissatisfaction with China's ban on Japanese seafood following the release of treated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant, calling it "totally unacceptable" and stating that it will explain its position in relevant WTO committees. Japan may consider filing a WTO complaint, with support from the United States. Japan has also requested discussions with China based on the provisions of the RCEP trade pact. The ban has impacted Japan's seafood exports to China, its largest market, and to mitigate the loss, Japan plans to spend over 100 billion yen to support its domestic fisheries industry.
