"U.S. Embassy Applauds Peaceful Border Relations between Lebanon and Israel"

The U.S. embassy in Lebanon has praised a 12-hour period of calm along the border with Israel, where daily exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Israel had been occurring. The temporary truce brokered by Qatar between Israel and Hezbollah's ally Hamas in Gaza did not formally extend to Lebanon, but Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri warned that any disruption in Gaza would also affect Lebanon. The violence along the border has resulted in the deaths of 87 Hezbollah fighters and over a dozen Lebanese civilians.
